Our curriculum here at Woodlake Montessori Preschool & Infant Care provides children with the opportunity of freedom to explore and learn from a carefully prepared environment. The environment is designed to capitalize on the innate natural tendency of a child’s capacity to absorb information. The child’s sensitive period ranges from birth to 6 years of age. The early years of a child’s life are very crucial. Therefore, it is imperative that they be given the right exposure. As a well- rounded and a fully equipped Montessori school, we honor the teachings of Dr. Maria Montessori. We work by helping one another while gaining self- confidence and self-discipline. The curriculum is designed to stimulate the development of the “whole” child. Children choose their activities from open shelves with self-correcting materials and within distinct work areas either on tables or rugs on the floor. Over a period of time, the children develop into a “normalized community” working with high concentration and few interruptions. The classroom includes the following components:

Woodlake Montessori Preschool & Infant Care exposes our students to an assortment of activities that enrich and expand their experiences. Extra curricular classes will vary and rotate throughout the school year to provide a variety of options for all interests. Music, yoga, dance, ball sports, and Spanish classes are all offered as apart of the tuition.

Extra curricular classes such as ballet, hip-hip, soccer, Chinese (mandarin) or private yoga lessons are offered at an additional fee and are payable directly to the providers.

Music Class

Our music program develops children’s awareness and love of music through singing, movement, and listening. Our curriculum includes basic theory, history, appreciation, and performance.

Yoga Class

"Children encounter emotional, social, and physical challenges or conflicts, a dedicated and intentional yoga practice that includes breathing techniques, behavioral guidelines, and physical postures can be incredibly valuable for them..."
  • It Enhances Physical Flexibility
  • It Refines Balance and Coordination
  • It Develops Focus and Concentration
  • It Boosts Self-Esteem and Confidence
  • It Strengthens the Mind-Body Connection

Dance Class

Children primarily learn through physical and sensory experiences. Thus, learning the art of dance helps young children develop knowledge, skill, and understanding about the world. Dance helps children develop literacy. To the young child, verbal language and movement are entwined.

Some of the benefits include:
  • Increased overall physical confidence
  • Improved general and psychological wellbeing
  • Greater self-confidence
  • Greater self-esteem
  • Greater self-motivation
  • Improved mental dexterity
  • Better social skills

Foreign Language

Learning a foreign language plays an important part of the Montessori experience. The children learn vocabulary and conversational skills through singing and games. Twice a week, our Language teacher provides the children with stimulating materials and engages in the Spanish language. Chinese (mandarin) is available as an extra curricular class.

Art

The foundation for art and drawing is the same as that for writing: exercises that develop the muscles of the fingers and hands for holding pencils and making controlled movements. In addition, the development of the senses through the sensorial exercises aid the child’s awareness and artistic appreciation of his environment. Montessori’s method to the arts is a good example of her indirect approach to learning, which leads to increased creativity.

Physical Fitness

We realize the importance and necessity of physical fitness as part of every child’s well being. Children enjoy creative movement and are offered lots of opportunity for a wide variety of physical skills such as bicycling, throwing and catching a ball, balancing on a beam, running, climbing, dancing, marching, etc.
